Liquid fenbendazole is a broad spectrum oral anthelmintic (dewormer) approved for use in dogs. Fenbendazole is used to treat dogs infected with adult and developing immature forms of nematodes. Puppies can be infected with parasites at birth or after nursing. Young and adult dogs alike may pick up an infestation from the environment or other dogs. Parasites such as roundworms migrate through the bloodstream to the lungs and digestive tract, causing damage and robbing the dog of nutrients. Liquid fenbendazole safely removes these parasites.

Fenbendazole
-
Fenbendazole is part of the benzimidazole family. It is appropriate for use in dogs 2 weeks of age and older. Because fenbendazole attacks the parasite's cells over the dog's own tissue, it has limited side effects and is safe for use in puppies. Once administered, it begins working immediately and is either metabolized into the dog's system or is excreted out of the body within 48 hours.
Uses
-
Use liquid fenbendazole to remove roundworms, hookworms, some tapeworms and whipworms. These nematodes affect the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Fenbendazole is also used for the removal of lung flukes, lung worms and giardia. It has a high margin of safety because it is drawn to the cells of the parasites and not the infected animal.
Dosing
-
If directed by a veterinarian, liquid fenbendazole may be given with food. Use only a small amount of food to ensure all medication is ingested. Dosage is based on weight of the dog. Label dose is 50mg/kg for three days. Liquid fenbendazole must be given for multiple consecutive days for maximum efficacy. If a dose is missed, give it as soon as possible. Never give two doses at once.
Treatment Options
-
Liquid fenbendazole is safe enough to use multiple times per year. Administer once a month to prevent a dog from re-infestation if recommended by a veterinarian. Many breeders administer treatment to their dogs every month, as well as before breeding. This prevents the female from passing parasites on to her puppies. If treating a pregnant female, dose on day 40 of her pregnancy and continue for two days after she delivers.
Features and Benefits
-
A superior safety margin makes liquid fenbendazole an efficacious choice for de-worming dogs. It is less expensive than several other anthelmintic products. It is available at most pet and feed stores and can be refrigerated for up to 3 years. Use liquid fenbendazole to treat a variety of parasites, eliminating the use of multiple products.
Side Effects
-
Side effects are rare. Vomiting may be seen on occasion. Some dogs may experience an allergic reaction to the dying parasites or the medication itself. Allergic reactions include hives, scratching, facial swelling, diarrhea, seizures, shock, pale gums, cold limbs or coma. Contact your veterinarian immediately if any of these symptoms are observed.
