A tick infestation might be more of a serious problem than you realize. Many people are aware that a tick bite can cause Lyme disease, but there are also many other serious diseases that can result from a tick bite, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Tularemia, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis and tick-borne relapsing fever. To help protect yourself, your family and your pets, it's very important to get rid of a tick infestation as soon as possible.
Things You'll Need
- Tick medication or collar
- Fence
- Chemical control agent
Instructions
Treat your pets to reduce the number of ticks in your home and yard. Pets can be treated with medication, similar to medication used to control fleas, or a tick collar. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best method for your pet.
Clear away vegetation in your yard that promotes tick population growth. This includes bushes, shrubs, tall grass and leaf litter.
Put up a fence to keep deer out of your yard. Deer will bring ticks with them and likely add to the tick infestation.
Find an effective chemical control agent for ticks, such as acaricide. Apply this control agent to your yard in the spring to get rid of the tick infestation.
