Each year many animals go through the vaccination process for rabies. Many animals go through the procedure safely. However, some animals have severe reactions. Some animals actually die from the process. Though death is rare, other conditions are not. Pet owners have recently become concerned over the affect the vaccination has on their animals. Some animal owners opt for the holistic approach when managing their animal's health because of the number and seriousness of the effects of vaccination.

Dog Allergic Reactions
-
Life-threatening disorders can affect your dog after receiving a rabies vaccination. Some of the symptoms are heavy breathing, a swollen face, watery eyes, vomiting, seizures and collapsing. If your dog experiences any of these side effects, you should contact your vet immediately for help. Your dog is most likely having a allergic reaction, which can be reversed if it is treated quickly enough.
Dog Side Effects
-
Immediately or up to three days after vaccination, your dog may exhibit vomiting, facial swelling, fever or lethargy, circulatory shock, loss of consciousness or death. Days, weeks or months after the shot, your dog may experience fibrosarcoma at the injection spot, seizures, allergies, autoimmune diseases including organ disease, allergies and skin problems, chronic digestive problems, muscle weakness (especially in hind legs), skin diseases such as ischemic dermatopathy or cutaneous vasculitis; behavioral problems such as aggression, destructive behaviors, separation anxiety; and odd behaviors like tail chasing and paw licking.
Cat Adverse Reactions
-
It is not uncommon for your cat to show some adverse reactions to the rabies vaccine. These reactions include tiredness, injection site soreness, stiffness, sore joints, stomach tenderness, anaphylactic shock (swelling of airways), mild fever, diminished appetite, liver and kidney problems, sneezing, depression of the immune system and poor toleration of illness and other pre-existing conditions. Some animals lose the ability to cure themselves easily after the vaccine because of prior illness.
Cat Health Problems
-
Other serious problems for cats are linked to the rabies vaccine, such as feline leukemia and sarcomas at the injection site. Fatal allergic reactions can also occur. Soft tissue tumors at the injection site are usually malignant, aggressive and fatal. Skin problems such as hair loss, lesions, ulcers and hard lumps at the injection site may be present. These problems are not epidemics, but are common enough for widespread concern over the vaccination.
