To all dog owners, man's best friend is more like a family member. So should your dog start vomiting bile, it is very natural to worry and jump to conclusions. Before making the assumption that your dog is seriously ill, make note that there are a number of different reasons that cause dogs to vomit bile.
-
Eating too fast
-
Many dogs have a bad habit of eating too fast. They devour their food bowl in less than five minutes and vomit bile within the hour. This is not serious. One way to prevent this from happening is the insert rocks too large to eat into the food bowl, forcing the dog to carefully select food pieces and not rocks, thus slowing the pace of eating.
Eating Grass
-
A common cause for bile vomiting is eating blades of grass. Though scientists are unsure as to why eating grass makes them vomit bile, it still occurs. The only way to prevent dogs from eating grass is to monitor them carefully when they are outside.
Gastritis
-
Gastritis is stomach inflammation. It is caused by something the dog eats. This disease definitely causes the vomiting of bile. The two kinds of gastritis are acute and chronic. Acute can easily be cured by depriving the dog of food for 24 hours. Chronic gastritis is very serious and needs to be treated by a professional. Chronic Gastritis is also a sign of cancers in the stomach.
