More common now than ever before, owners will find dogs with itchy skin, chewing on their paws, constantly licking and having allergies. Many treatments like digestive enzymes, dietary supplements and diets are used for long-term treatment to cure itching. People can also use a variety of home remedies for short-term relief of itching in dogs.

Unscented Fish Oil
-
Unscented fish oil is extremely soothing for dogs, as it hydrates the skin. It can be found at most health food stores, online and at retail stores. It comes in a liquid form or capsule form, but the liquid is much easier to apply to your dog's skin. Apply a generous amount of fish oil to the area of the dog's skin where most itching is occurring and brush through the coat of the dog's hair to minimize itching. Regular fish oil can also be used, but the smell is not too friendly; however, unscented fish oil can be purchased as well.
Tea Tree Oil
-
Tea tree oil is an antiseptic agent that will clean allergens off of your dog's coat. The oil can be purchased online or at a health food store in liquid form. Apply the oil by brushing it on or spraying it on the dog's coat. It should be applied everyday to effectively soothe pain and itching.
Oatmeal
-
A mixture of regular oatmeal and water can be applied directly to your dog's skin to get relief of itching. The oatmeal will relieve dryness and give relief from itching. Apply the oatmeal to the dog outside or in the bathtub so the oatmeal can sit on the dog's skin for at least 10 minutes. Rinse the dog off with warm water.
Calendula Extract
-
Calendula extract can be purchased at most health food stores and can be applied to the dog's skin daily. The liquid has antibacterial and soothing qualities, and should give almost immediate relief. Apply a few drops directly to the affected area and brush some oil through the dog's entire coat.
Vitamin E
-
Vitamin E is available in capsule form at any health food store. The oil has strong moisturizing properties and helps with flaky, itchy, dry skin on dogs. Break the capsule open and apply directly to the dog's skin. The capsule can also be taken orally if the owner can disguise the capsule in the dog's food. Follow the recommended dosage on the bottle of taken orally.
Epsom Salt
-
If the dog has itchy feet, Epsom salt works great for relief. Mix Epsom salt in a bathtub with cold water and allow the dog's feet to soak in the water for at least 15 minutes. Do not allow the dog to drink the water.
