There is no cure for canine epilepsy. But it is possible to manage the symptoms. According to Natural Canine Remedies, diet plays an important role in the management of canine epilepsy. Allen M. Schoen, D.V.M., M.S., says nothing beats a homemade, balanced, natural diet for an epileptic dog. Although homemade dog food with quality ingredients may take a little time to prepare, it will meet all a dog's nutritional needs and can help reduce or control seizures. This recipe will yield approximately eight cups of food.
Things You'll Need
- 1 pot
- 1 chicken
- 1/2 cup white potato
- 1/2 cup yam
- 1 cup zucchini
- 1 cup carrots
- 1 cup string beans
Instructions
Put the chicken in the pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for three hours. Remove from the pot and drain. When cool, pull the chicken skin away from the flesh and discard.
Pour the hot water, or soup, into a bowl and refrigerate. When cold, skim off any fat that has risen to the surface. Heat the liquid and add it to the food when serving. It will provide flavor and trace minerals.
Peel and clean the potatoes. Put them into a pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil and simmer for one hour. Remove from the pot and drain.
Peel, clean and slice the yam. Place in the pot. Cover with water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from the pot and drain.
Clean and roughly slice the zucchini, carrots and string beans. Place in the pot, cover with water and boil until very tender. Remove from the pot and drain.
Pull approximately four cups of chicken flesh from the chicken. Combine with the other ingredients and blend well.
