Tear stains that come from a dog's eyes appear as brown or pink streaks. They have a number of causes, including low-grade bacterial infections, yeast infections or blocked tear ducts. Some dogs are also prone to tear stains due to genetics. While all dogs can develop tear staining, it is most apparent among dogs with light or white fur. Tear staining can make a dog look sickly or unkempt, and cleaning those tear stains can keep your dog looking well groomed.
Things You'll Need
- Milk of magnesia
- Peroxide, 20 to 40 volume
- Bowl
- Stirring spoon
- Cornstarch
- Soft cloth
Instructions
Mix an equal amount of milk of magnesia and peroxide between 20 and 40 volume in a bowl.
Add cornstarch slowly to the mixture, stirring it in until you have a paste.
Apply the paste to the dog's tear stains carefully. Peroxide can sting so do not allow the mixture to make contact with your dog's eyes.
Leave the paste on the dog's face overnight, letting it dry out.
Clean the mixture from the dog's face in the morning with a soft cloth and clean water. Repeat the process if necessary.
