Ticks can be a common pest for dogs. They can carry diseases and infect dogs when they bite them. When a tick bites a dog, its head becomes embedded in the dog's skin, so the tick must be manually removed. In addition to transmitting diseases, ticks can cause anemia and lead to skin infections. Removing a tick from a dog is a simple process consisting of a few easy steps.
Things You'll Need
- Small spray bottle
- Rubbing alcohol
- Rubber gloves
- Tweezers
- Small container
- Betadine
Instructions
Pour rubbing alcohol into your spray bottle. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from the tick.
Part the dog's hair, exposing the tick. Spray the tick with the rubbing alcohol to make it release its bite on the dog.
Remove the tick from the dog using tweezers or your fingers. Be careful not to squash the tick, which would expose the dog to its poisonous blood. Apply antiseptic, such as betadine, to the area where the tick was attached.
Place the tick into a small container with alcohol. Be sure to do this after removing it to assure it doesn't re-attach to your dog.
Check your dog all over for additional ticks and remove them. Make sure to check between its toes and the area around its ears.
Dispose of the ticks by flushing them down the toilet.
