Dog owners love their pets and enjoy being near them. Unfortunately, so do the neighborhood fleas. Fleas aren̵7;t just a nuisance; they can also cause health problems. ̶0;Approximately 40 percent of dogs will have an allergic reaction to a flea bite,̶1; according to dog-health-handbook.com. Flea bites can cause anemia too. Tackle flea problems by using Frontline flea control, a liquid treatment that a person applies to the pet̵7;s skin. The ingredients in Frontline absorb into the dog̵7;s body and repel fleas from coming near the dog. Applying Frontline is relatively easy, but it does require attention to detail. If possible, enlist the help of another person.
Things You'll Need
- Dog̵7;s leash
- 1 vial Frontline
- Paper towels
- Latex gloves
Instructions
Confine your dog to a smaller room, and close the door. Preferably use a room that has flooring like vinyl or tile so that you can easily wipe up the floor, in case any of the Frontline gets on the floor. A bathroom is ideal, because it̵7;s small and typically has easy-to-clean flooring.
Put the leash on your dog, and reassure him. Depending on your dog̵7;s personality, he might become nervous or apprehensive about the procedure of applying Frontline.
Put latex gloves on your hands to protect your skin.
If you have an additional person helping you, ask her to hold your dog firmly in the area of the dog̵7;s lower body and around the back and abdomen.
While holding the Frontline container upright and pointing it away from your body, slowly and carefully remove the top from the container. Put this packaging material on a paper towel.
Place the tip of the Frontline vial onto your dog̵7;s skin, under the fur, in between the shoulder blades on the upper back. Carefully squeeze out a small amount of Frontline, and allow it to soak into your dog̵7;s skin. Wait if needed until it absorbs, and then apply more in the same spot of skin. Continue applying the liquid in this manner until the Frontline container is empty.
Your dog might try to shake or roll around on her back, but deter her from doing this.
Place the empty Frontline container on the paper towel. Remove the latex gloves, and place them on the paper towel. Fold the paper towel around its contents, and place it in the trash.
Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
Immediately take your dog for a walk. While you̵7;re walking, the Frontline will further absorb into your pet̵7;s skin. Your pet will be distracted by walking and will probably not attempt to roll around or otherwise remove the Frontline.
