How to Get Rid of Fleas on Puppies

Most flea-killing products can be harmful to puppies less than 8 weeks old. But you don't have to wait until your puppy is that age to eliminate fleas. If one puppy has fleas, all the other puppies in the litter and the mother are likely to have them as well. Other dogs in your home also should be treated for fleas, as well as the dog's bedding and your furniture.

Things You'll Need

  • Sink, basin or bathtub
  • Cup or spray nozzle
  • Soft washcloth or sponge
  • Dog shampoo specifically formulated for puppies
  • Towels
  • Flea comb
  • Cup of hot water

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all your materials for your puppy's bath.

    • 2

Fill a sink, basin or bathtub with an inch of lukewarm water.

    • 3

Wet the puppy up to his neck until he's dripping wet. Use a soft washcloth or sponge to wet the puppy's head.

    • 4

Place the puppy on a towel, and work the puppy shampoo into her coat, trying not to get it in her eyes, ears or mouth.

    • 5

Place the puppy back into the bath and rinse him, using the cup or spray nozzle to pour water over the puppy. Many fleas will drown this way.

    • 6

Take the puppy out of the bath and place her onto a dry towel. Place her in a warm spot or room to dry off.

    • 7

Comb through the puppy's hair with a flea comb. Drop the fleas into a cup of hot water or a cup containing flea powder for adult dogs.
