Home Cures for Earaches in Dogs

According to PetEducation.com, about 20 percent of dogs are affected by ear aches and infections. If your dog is scratching his ear, shaking his head or rubbing his ears on the floor, he may have an earache. Other symptoms of ear infections are redness, odor and discharge from the infected ear. It is wise to take your dog to a veterinarian if you think he has an earache. However, there are home remedies that may ease your dog's discomfort and even cure the ear infection.

  1. Warm Compress

    • Apply a warm compress to the dog's ear several times a day. This helps to ease your dog's pain while the ear infection heals.

Cod Liver Oil or Vitamin E Oil

    • For dogs suffering middle and inner ear infections a few drops of cod liver oil can help. Or break open a vitamin E gel tablet and drop the liquid into your dog's infected ear. This remedy will help ease your dog's ear pain.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • This is an oral home remedy to prevent an ear infection from getting worse. Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water. Let your dog drink this cup of water twice a week.

    Cleaning

    • Use white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Mix the parts equally and apply the mixture to a towel or washcloth. Clean inside the infected ear.
