Fleas and ticks can embed themselves into cats and dogs. It's important for a pet owner to remove these parasites properly, so they don't spread disease to an animal. Embedded ticks must be removed carefully, so the tick's body doesn't break off. If part of a tick is left under a pet's skin, it can cause an infection.
Things You'll Need
- Tweezers
- Cotton ball
- Hydrogen peroxide
Instructions
Hold the skin that surrounds the embedded tick taut with one hand.
Use your other hand to hold a pair of tweezers, and clamp the tweezers around the tick.
Slowly, pull the tick straight out, so you don't separate the tick's head from its body.
Pour hydrogen peroxide onto a cotton ball.
Swab the area where the tick was with the cotton ball to disinfect the area.
