If your dog has diarrhea, you don't necessarily need to go to the veterinarian. Instead, first try supplementing his diet with pumpkin. Pumpkin offers many benefits and can help relieve your dog's suffering in no time.

Super Pumpkin
-
Packed with fiber, beta-carotene, antioxidants and vitamins K, C and E, pumpkin is a super food with a taste your dog will love. This delicious vegetable helps prevent cancer, heart disease and cataracts. Pumpkin's orange color comes from carotenoids, which attack free radicals that weaken cell membranes. It also is high in iron, which is good for your dog's blood cells, and helps both constipation and diarrhea.
Pumpkin for Diarrhea
-
Pumpkin is high in insoluble fiber, which absorbs water. When your dog has diarrhea, pumpkin fiber will absorb the excess water in your dog's bowels and firm up the stool. But too much pumpkin can have the opposite effect, so don't overfeed your dog. A small dog (15 pounds or less) should have one to two teaspoons a day, and larger dogs should have two to three tablespoons a day.
A tablespoon of pumpkin isn't a complete meal, so mix it with boiled chicken and white rice. Feed your dog small portions of this bland diet a couple times a day, and the diarrhea should abate. If the diarrhea persists, take your dog to a veterinarian.
Buying Pumpkin
-
Pumpkin puree is sold in cans at most local grocery stores. It's usually found in the baking aisle with other pie fillings. Do not buy pumpkin pie mix, which has added sugar and extra ingredients that aren't beneficial to your dog. Pumpkin should be the only ingredient listed on the label.
If you can't find pumpkin, sweet potatoes are a good substitute. Again, only buy plain sweet potatoes. You don't want yams soaked in syrup--sugar is bad for your dog and will aggravate her stomach.
