How to Make Whitening Dog Shampoo

A whitening dog shampoo will restore your dog's white coat to a brilliant shine without using any harsh chemicals or bleach. White dogs can become stained due to playing in the mud, licking their fur or while going to the bathroom. Dull or stained fur is a common problem but fortunately whitening dog shampoo is a simple solution. You can purchase ready-made whitening shampoos in the store or try this recipe for homemade whitening dog shampoo.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty shampoo bottle
  • 1/2 cup dish soap
  • Funnel
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp. liquid glycerin
  • 2 tbsp. liquid bluing

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out an empty 14 oz. or larger shampoo bottle to store your whitening dog shampoo in.

    • 2

Pour 1/2 cup dish soap into the bottle with a funnel. Use a scented dish soap if you would like to add fragrance to your whitening dog shampoo.

    • 3

Add 1/2 cup white vinegar or apple cider vinegar to the bottle of whitening dog shampoo. Either type of vinegar will work just fine so use whichever one you prefer.

    • 4

Pour 1/2 cup water into the bottle. The water will thin the whitening dog shampoo so that it is easier to apply.

    • 5

Add two tbsp. of liquid glycerin to the whitening dog shampoo. You can find liquid glycerin at most drug stores.

    • 6

Add two tbsp. of liquid bluing. This product usually comes in a small bottle and is available in the laundry section of your supermarket or you can order it on the Internet if stores in your area do not carry it.

    • 7

Put the cap on the bottle and shake it vigorously before each use.
