How to Add Vinegar to Water to Stop a Dog's Itching

Apple cider vinegar is renowned among folk medicine enthusiasts for its human health benefits. While there's no scientific proof of its efficacy, apple cider vinegar is also reputed to cure dogs' itchy skin and repel fleas. You can apply apple cider vinegar to your dog's skin--full strength to a 50-50 mix of vinegar and water--any time you notice the dog showing signs of itchy, irritated skin.

Things You'll Need

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Water (optional)
  • Spray bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Pour apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle.

    • 2

Part your dog's fur in the itchy area and spray liberally with apple cider vinegar. Leave the vinegar in place; don't rinse it off.

    • 3

Dilute the apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water before applying it to broken skin.

    • 4

Rub your dog briskly with a towel, if necessary, to dry him off. Again, don't rinse the apple cider vinegar away.

    • 5

      Repeat application daily as needed.
