Fleas and ticks can make your dog miserable. Nowadays flea and tick control systemics can keep your pet free of external parasites and comfortable year-round.
-
Prior Treatments
-
Before systemics, pet owners had to rely on insecticides like flea dips, sprays and bombs to keep fleas and ticks away from their pets and out of their houses.
Process
-
While some flea and tick systemics kill adult fleas and ticks and others do not, all break the growth and reproduction cycle of fleas by preventing immature fleas from growing up or reproducing.
Dose
-
The dosage of flea and tick systemics depends on your dog's weight.
Types
-
Systemics are given once a month either as a topical, spot-on (for example, Imidacloprid or Fipronil) or as a once-a-month pill (Lufenuron).
Warning
-
Always use systemics according to directions and do not use other flea and tick control products without consulting your veterinarian first. Do not use flea and tick control products made for a dog on a cat.
