Add water to dry food for more moisture. Prozyme comes in a powder form that easily mixes with wet or moist food. While dog food already contains natural enzymes, the more processed the food is---most dog food is highly processed---the more these natural enzymes are compromised, altered or even destroyed. In addition, dog̵7;s suffering from abnormal pancreatic function fail to produce enzymes in high enough concentration to aid with digestion.
Lactose Factor

Many dogs that experience digestive problems are also lactose intolerant, a factor the makers of Prozyme failed to consider when creating the original formula. The lactose in the original Prozyme formula resulted in vomiting and diarrhea among lactose-intolerant dogs, hence the reformulation and distribution of Prozyme Plus, with contains no lactose.
Prozyme Plus Side Effects

Watch closely for swelling and itching. While Prozyme Plus is well tolerated by most dogs, there have been reports of allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of the face, paws and throat, in addition to chest tightness and trouble breathing. For this reason, Prozyme is not recommended for dogs with a history of fever or allergic reactions to lactobacillus, acidophilus, bifidobacterium or streptococcus thermophilus.
How Much to Give

A little goes a long way Dogs with no history of the above reactions should be given ¼ tsp. of Prozyme powder over wet or moist food one to three times daily. For senior dogs who experience trouble chewing, add water to food and then allow the food to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
EPI Warning

Dogs suffering from Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) require animal-based pancreatic enzymes. While Prozyme, which is plant-based, is safe for EPI dogs, it should always be given in conjunction with an animal-based enzymatic solution. Prozyme alone will not provide a sufficient supply of enzymes for dogs with EPI.
