Hiccups in puppies are very common, just like with people. Hiccups are caused by spasms in the puppies' diaphragms that pull air into their lungs. As result, their vocal cords move, creating the sound of a hiccup. For the most part, hiccups in puppies are usually nothing to worry about.
Things You'll Need
- Dog treat
Instructions
Realize that the puppy's hiccups are normal, and will usually go away on their own. Just be patient and wait for the hiccups to stop.
Walk your puppy or play with her. The exercise may change the puppy's breathing pattern, causing the hiccups to disappear. You can also try to get rid of the hiccups by giving your puppy a treat.
Relax the puppy by massaging and petting her. Keep the puppy away from other animals she's not familiar with, since they may cause her to become angry or stressed. Hiccups can be caused by a minor stomach disorder or stress.
