Home Cures for Canine Itching Problems

Dogs can have allergies just as humans do, and skin irritation in dogs can be very uncomfortable for them. You can administer an antihistamine such as Benadryl at home for your canine's itching problems. A healthy diet will help your dog's overall condition. Natural, organic dog food free of preservatives is the best for your dog. Add a fish oil pill to your dog's food once a day for relief from the inside out. There are also a few home cures for canine itching problems that are more natural and organic.

  1. Curing Itchy Skin

    • Allergies that cause a dog's skin to itch can seem relentless. Dogs will chew at their skin, use their paws and claws to itch at their skin and even dig their bodies into furniture to relieve their itching. You can give a dog 20 mg of Benadryl (or any antihistamine) per 20 lbs of body weight to relieve the itching.

      Give your dog a bath every few days with oatmeal shampoo. Special oatmeal shampoo for canines can be purchased almost anywhere. After the bath you can apply tea tree oil to the dog's coat by brushing it into the problem areas. Tea tree oil has antiseptic properties. If your dog has an area that seems particularly troubling, apply calendula extract to it. calendula extract has both soothing qualities and antibacterial properties.To temporarily relieve itching in the ears due to mites, you can swab the dog's ear canal with a cotton ball dipped in mineral oil.

    Curing Itchy Feet

    • A dog with allergies may chew and lick his feet. It can be extremely uncomfortable for the dog. To remedy this situation, mix Epsom salts in cool water in your bathtub or even outside in a kiddie pool. Try to get the dog to stand in the saltwater for at least five minutes and possibly 10 minutes. Make sure the dog does not drink the water. Yyou can also put baking soda in the cool water for your dog's feet.
