Although there are several types of flea and tick prevention medications, these medications are never 100-percent effective. Further, you are not supposed to use chemical flea medication on very young puppies because their immune systems are not yet fully developed. If your puppy has contracted fleas, there is no reason to panic. Instead, follow a few steps to remove fleas from your puppy.
Things You'll Need
- Dish soap or
- Baby shampoo
- Flea comb
Instructions
Fill your sink or bath tub with warm water. Make sure that the water is not too hot because you don't want to scald your puppy's skin.
Place your puppy in the sink or tub and make sure that all areas of your puppy are wet, including her head.
Remove your puppy and place her on a towel.
Massage dish soap or baby shampoo into your puppy. Be sure to cover every part of your puppy's body, head, neck, ears and face. Be very careful not to get this soap in the eyes.
Place your puppy back into the tub and rinse off the dish soap or shampoo. You may want to use a cup to pour water over your puppy's body and head.
Remove your puppy from the sink or tub and dry him or her off with a towel.
Run a flea comb through your puppy's hair. Make sure to do this while the hair is still damp. If you happen to comb out any fleas, place them in a warm cup of water.
