Bladder Infection in Dobermans

There are several reasons for incontinence in Doberman pinschers, according to Blue Ridge Doberman Rescue. A urinary tract infection is one cause of frequent urination that must be treated as early as possible.

  1. Features

    • UTI causes a Doberman to have the urge to urinate a lot. Also, if the infection has been present for a long period of time, the bladder may be scarred and unable to stretch to hold urine.

    Consideration

    • When a Doberman has a UTI, he may urinate frequently and in odd places. This should not be confused with regular incontinence because with a bladder infection, the dog knows he is urinating, yet the urge is very strong.

    Cause

    • UTI is caused by bacteria in the bladder, urethra or kidney. This can become fatal if left untreated.

    Symptoms

    • In addition to frequent urination, UTI will also cause a Doberman to become lethargic and lose her interest in eating. Blood may also be present in the dog's urine.

    Solution

    • Vitamin C or some other citrus fruit added to a dog's water is beneficial for treating UTI, according to DogUrinaryInfection.net. Also, frequent walks with chances to urinate will help wash the bacteria out.
