How to Cure a Boxer Dog of a Cough

Pets, like humans, will fall ill from time to time. In the case of boxer dogs, this may include a tendency to come down with a persistent cough from time to time. When that occurs, there are numerous ways a pet owner can go about curing their boxer of a cough.

Things You'll Need

  • Vaporizer
  • Hot water
  • Salt
  • Collodial Silver
  • Echinacea
  • Bryonia tablets

Instructions

    • 1

See a veterinarian or emergency animal hospital. If the cough is persistent, results in any blood or mucus, or a pet owner simply wants to remedy a worrisome situation, visiting the nearest vet or animal hospital is the most surefire way to remedy the cough. Vets will be able to diagnose what exactly is causing a boxer's cough, and prescribe medication to treat it.

Employ a vaporizer. Sold at most pharmacies, vaporizers combine water, salt and steam to create a steamy mixture that helps open up the lungs and breathing passages in both humans and dogs alike. Simply combine water and salt as directed in the vaporizer instructions, and plug it in. Try doing so in a utility room or bathroom, as these smaller rooms make a boxer more likely to get as much as possible from the outpouring steam.

Use a hot shower. If no vaporizer is on hand, set a shower on its hottest setting. Once hot steamy vapor begins to cloud the bathroom, bring a boxer dog in and let it breathe in the steamy air for 15-20 minutes. This will help open up breathing passages and alleviate the cough.

Try a herbal remedy, once said remedy is approved by a veterinarian. For instance, adding a few drops of Collodial Silver to a boxer's drinking water or placing a few drops of Echinacea in a dog's mouth are known to help alleviate cough. Also, try giving a boxer a Bryonia table three times daily. Hide the tablets in food, or crush it up and place in food to ensure a boxer ingests the tablets.

Take measures to clean up a boxer's "environment," this being a home in which a boxer lives. Clean the house, making sure it's as free of dust as possible. Do not smoke in the house. Refresh food and water bowls often. Place a new air filter in the air conditioner, to help eliminate dust in the air.
