Information on Sentinel Heartworm Tablets

Sentinel Flavor Tabs are a preventative for life-threatening heartworm disease in dogs and puppies. They may only be sold or prescribed by a licensed veterinarian. The tablets are beef flavored to make them acceptable to dogs and thus easy to administer.

  1. Dosage

    • Sentinel Flavor Tabs are available in four different sizes based on the dog's weight and are administered once a month. They should not be given to puppies that are younger than four weeks old or weigh less than two pounds.

    Uses

    • In addition to preventing heartworm, Sentinel Flavor Tabs also help to control fleas and provide protection against roundworms, whipworms and hookworms.

    Side Effects

    • In some cases, dogs will exhibit mild side effects to Sentinel Flavor Tabs, such as labored respiration, salivation, lethargy or vomiting. If these side effects continue, consult your veterinarian.

    Adverse Reactions

    • Adverse reactions to Sentinel Flavor Tabs can include hypersalivation, weakness, depression, anorexia, convulsions, coordination problems or skin irritations. If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.

    Existing Infections

    • According to Sentinel, dogs must be tested for heartworm prior to using this preventative. If your dog tests positive for a current heartworm infection, the infection must be eliminated before starting this treatment.
