For dog owners who want a quick method to kill fleas, a dip may be the right choice. If your dog is crawling with large numbers of live fleas, this method will start killing them almost immediately. You can dip your dog at home with a formulation containing Pyrethrin, a concentrated form of the natural insecticide Pyrethrum.

Dip a sponge in the flea-killing solution and apply it to your dog's fur. Ensure that you soak all areas of its fur down to the skin. Avoid getting the dip in its ear canals, nostrils and eyes.
Allow the animal's fur to drip-dry. Do not rinse the solution out of your dog's hair. Repeat every seven days, or at the intervals recommended by the product manufacturer, as needed.
