What to Do For a Dog That Bruised Its Paw on a Cage

There are many types of dog injuries, but one of the most common is a paw bruise. Your dog could have bruised his paw on a long run, by playing too hard, or simply by hitting or trapping his paw on a cage. A bruised paw is not the end of the world, but your dog might be feeling delicate and need some special treatment until the wound heals.

  1. Take it Slowly

    • If your dog is limping from her bruised paw, make sure she stays off her feet until she is feeling better. Take her outside to potty, but don't encourage too much running or walking. Rather than physically exercising her, tire her out mentally by providing puzzle toys.

    Use Ointment

    • Some companies are making ointment intended for injured dog paws. Gently apply a small amount to your dog's paw, and the bruise will be gone in no time.

    Visit the Veterinarian

    • If your dog has severely bruised his paw on a cage, a trip to the vet might be required. If the bruise does not heal after a day or two, or gets worse, make an appointment to take him in for a checkup. What seems like a bruise could be a bone break.

    Give Love

    • Your dog is likely feeling sorry for herself after she bruised her paw on the cage. Give her some attention to take her mind off the injury. If she likes being groomed, brush her gently and she will soon be feeling better.
