Controlling fleas on your pet is an ongoing chore, whether you use a commercial product or natural repellents. If you choose to use natural treatments, including brewer's yeast, you should approach the treatment as one part of a holistic process. You might wish to consult a homeopathic veterinarian to look at methods for improving your pet's overall health and diet. Frequent grooming, using a flea comb, must also be part of the process.
Things You'll Need
- Dog's food Brewer's yeast Jar with sprinkle cap, such as an old powder bottle Flea comb Bowl of soapy water
Instructions
As a food additive
Prepare your dog's normal food.
Add one milligram of brewer's yeast to the food per five pounds of your dog's body weight. For a large dog, this would be about one tablespoon.
Feed this to your dog daily for about one month before expecting results.
Grooming
Place brewer's yeast in a jar with a sprinkle cap, such as an old powder bottle.
Fill a bowl with soapy water.
Comb your dog with a flea comb. Remove fleas and place them in the soapy water to drown.
After grooming, sprinkle brewer's yeast on your pet as a flea powder. If your pet licks some of the brewer's yeast off, it will not harm him.
Repeat the grooming process, using the brewer's yeast powder, at least once per week. Groom the dog more often in the case of a severe infestation.
