Things You'll Need
- Several pieces of medical gauze
- Bandage wrap
- Scissors
- Rubbing alcohol
- Water
- Soap
- Antibiotic ointment
- Cotton balls
- Medical adhesive tape
Instructions
Control the bleeding first by placing a pressure bandage on the wound. Place several pieces of clean medical gauze on the wound and bandage them tightly with a bandage wrap.
Wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and soap to prevent contamination.
Remove the pressure dressing and blot at it gently with a piece of gauze that has been soaked in plain water.
Cut away any hair that might be covering the wound with a pair of scissors that have been cleaned with rubbing alcohol.
Irrigate the wound by pouring clean tap water directly over it.
Apply a layer of antibiotic ointment to the wounded area carefully.
Place a few pieces of sterile gauze over the wound and secure them with medical adhesive tape.
Place cotton balls between the dog̵7;s toes.
Loop medical adhesive tape around the foot from the bottom to the top starting at the toes until the entire foot is covered and then begin moving the tape up the leg, making sure to overlap the tape around itself and not the dog̵7;s hair and skin.
Flex the foot and the knee to ensure the bandaging is not too tight.
Check the wound every few hours.
