To keep our dogs happy and healthy, we have to properly take care of them. This includes keeping their hair coats clean and ensuring they have healthy and shiny coats. Unfortunately, canine hair coats can become matted and clump up into hairballs. It is important to brush them every day to avoid this and to keep mats from forming. Severely matted coats will have to be shaved off.
Things You'll Need
- De-matting dog brush
- Dog shampoo and conditioner
- Animal detangling spray
- Towel
Instructions
Brush the dog using a de-matting hair brush. This will help remove matting or hairballs from the fur (done daily, this will help decrease the matting in the long run).
Bathe the dog using dog shampoo, liberally massaging the coat. Next, use a dog conditioner and saturate the coat with it.This will help detangle the hair, making it easier to brush through.
Brush the wet fur before rinsing out the conditioner. Once you can get the brush through the hair without a problem, rinse out the conditioner.
Apply a detangling spray onto the fur once the dog is out of the bathwater. Detangling sprays can be purchased from pet stores. This will smooth the coat, leaving it hairball-free.
Towel dry the fur. Once the fur is completely dry, brush it one more time. Brush the fur every day to ensure the hair stays tangle-free.
