Misconceptions
-
Hair loss is not a known side effect to Mitaban dip. The most common underlying reason for the use of Mitaban, demodectic mange, is known to cause hair loss, sometimes in prolific amounts.
Considerations
-
It is recommended that dogs who aren't already primarily bald be shaved before the use of Mitaban dip. The amount of skin that comes in direct contact with the dip increases the effectiveness of the medication.
Time Frame
-
According to Mitaban's Food and Drug Administration-approved label, dogs should be dipped every two weeks. The amount of dip used, or dosage, is directly proportionate based upon the size of your dog.
Warning
-
While over-the-counter amitraz solutions are available, it is best to speak with a veterinarian before pursuing at home treatment. Other diseases and illnesses may mimic the symptoms of demodectic mange.
Side Effects
-
The most common reported side effects of Mitaban are itchiness, lethargy and low body temperature. Rare but serious side effects include loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, slow heart rate, low blood sugar, ataxia, seizures and death.
