Signs of a Pregnant Boxer

Recognizing the symptoms of pregnancy is the first step to providing a boxer dog the best possible care. Sometimes boxers, like most breeds of dog, may suffer from ̶0;phantom dog pregnancy." Signs of pregnancy will appear. However, no impregnation has occurred. In this case, you will need to take her to a vet to be checked. This condition could turn into mastitis as well as other complications

  1. Boxer Body Changes

    • Take a look at the boxer's nipples and stomach. Her nipples will become enlarged if she is pregnant and breasts will begin to grow in preparation for milk. The boxer's stomach will start to show a bump fast, especially if she is not overweight. She will become larger in size and much heavier. Her temperature will drop from 101-102 degrees Fahrenheit to about 97-99 degrees.

    Boxer Behavior

    • Watch her behavior and moods. She might start to show dominance toward other pets and possibly toward you. Your boxer may start to get moody. She might become more affectionate or start to withdraw from attention and start spending more time alone. If your boxer is normally playful, she may want to be left alone as opposed to playing. She will tend to get worn out more easily and do less activity. This is general and common behavior for all pregnant dogs.

    Boxer's Diet

    • A pregnant boxer will have a decreased appetite in the early stages of pregnancy. Around the third week of pregnancy there will be a three- to 10-day period when her appetite is suppressed. The last three to four weeks of pregnancy the mother̵7;s appetite will be quite large. This is because the puppies are beginning to grow rapidly.
