Homeopathic Dry Skin Remedies for Dogs

Dogs can suffer from dry skin just like their human owners do. Dry skin in dogs can result from many things, with allergies the main cause. Dry skin can itch and cause discomfort for the dog; treat it immediately. Though over-the-counter medications exist for treating dry skin in dogs, try a few efficient and cost-effective homeopathic remedies.

  1. Recipes

    • Maintain the health of your dog's skin not only for comfort but also for overall health. The skin, the largest organ of the body, acts as a barrier between the environment and your pet's body.

To help with the dog's coat, steep 1 tsp. of rosemary leaves in 1 pint of boiling water. Let boil for 10 minutes, then strain. After bathing your dog in oatmeal shampoo or the next recipe, smooth this over your dog for a final step, and do not rinse off.

Shampooing a dog with dry skin can soothe the irritation and itchiness. Boil two green tea bags and two chamomile tea bags together for 20 minutes. Combine 2 oz. of glycerin with a 400-unit capsule of vitamin E with lemon juice from one lemon. Then, combine 8 oz. of baby shampoo (natural if possible) with the glycerin mixture, then add 1/2 cup of the tea brew. Shampoo your dog with this mixture, and as a final step add the above rosemary treatment. Do not rinse the rosemary treatment.

If your dog's dry skin is creating severe itching symptoms you may try an apple cider mixture. Combine one teaspoon of brown apple cider with 20 drops of calendula tincture and ten milliliters of Colloidal Silver and put all ingredients into a small spray bottle. Fill the rest with distilled water. The Colloidal Silver has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties to treat the itching from the dry skin.

    Preventative Care

    • Once you have the dry skin under control, begin preventative homeopathic dry skin care to alleviate the issue in the future. Establish a regimen of giving your dog daily vitamins such as bee pollen, echinacea, essential omega-3, ester C, vitamin C and nettle. The bee pollen, vitamin C, nettle and echinacea will all boost your dog's immune system, which will better arm his body to deal with the dry skin.
