If your dog has cracked or chapped lips, you should take her to a veterinarian. An inflammation of the lips, medically referred to as cheilitis, often results from an infection inside the mouth--though, occasionally, dogs develop chapped lips when outdoors in inclement weather. Once a dog's lips become chapped, the dog is likely to aggravate the condition by rubbing and pawing at her face. Until you take your pet to a veterinarian, you can offer some comforting treatments for the dog's chapped lips.
Things You'll Need

- Washcloth
- Paper towels

Apply topical diaper rash cream to the lips.
Apply petroleum jelly or aloe vera gel to the dog's lips to keep them moisturized and soft once they begin to heal.
