Allergy Remedies

Excessive shedding and hair loss in dogs can be caused by allergies. Dogs can be allergic to shampoo, dog food, flea bites, mites or dust mites.
For a suspected allergy to food, remove the dry dog food from the pet's access. Replace it with a homemade mix of fully-cooked rice, cooked vegetables and boiled chicken breast. This home food remedy is also called a "bland diet" and can be pureed in a blender for a finer texture. Feed your dog a bland diet for three days, and follow up with a veterinarian if the symptoms do not improve.
Human antihistamines such as Benadryl can be given to dogs for allergic reactions. Check with the veterinarian for exact dosage requirements as it is based on the dog's weight.
Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and it also gives the immune system a good boost. This makes apple cider vinegar a good home remedy to use on dogs when they are experiencing hair loss.
Diluted equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water can be applied directly to the affected area. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture for easy application, and allow it to dry.
Boost the dog's immune system by placing two drops of apple cider vinegar on the food.
An antifungal bath can be given to relieve itching and hair loss symptoms by applying undiluted apple cider vinegar and then rinsing the dog with water. Be careful to not get apple cider vinegar in your dog's eyes though, as it can sting.
Olive oil

Olive oil is a good home remedy to apply on dog's coat and skin. It will help moisturize as well as soothe any irritation caused by severe itching. Another benefit of olive oil is that it will smother mites, if those parasites are the cause of dog's hair loss.
Gently massage olive oil into your dog's skin by applying 2 tbsp. into your hand first. Use more if you have a large dog.
Lemon juice

Lemon juice has natural antibacterial properties that can be used to treat a dog's hair loss problem. Infuse a quart of warm water with one slice of a lemon for five hours, and strain afterward. You can apply the lemon juice infusion as a rinse or as a spot treatment.
