How to Detox Your Dog

Many modern pets are suffering from chronic health problems that 40 years ago were an anomaly in domesticated animals. According to alternative-medicine veterinarians, these maladies are generally caused by commercialized pet food, over-vaccination, and chemicals found in our environment and in such items as flea products. Ailments like persistent diarrhea, constipation, allergies, yeast infections, kidney and liver problems, arthritis and skin rashes are the result of your dog's body working hard to rid itself of toxins. If your dog is afflicted by such conditions, he would benefit greatly from a detoxification regime.

Things You'll Need

  • Filtered water
  • Natural/organic dog food
  • Natural herbs
  • Liquid zeolite
  • Greens supplements
  • Natural/organic treats

Instructions

    • 1

Start with a brief fast from food for 12 to 24 hours. Ensure that your dog has access to fresh, filtered water at all times during the fast and the detoxification. Avoid unfiltered tap water because it may contain chlorine, fluoride, chemical residues and bacteria.

    • 2

Eliminate commercially processed food found in supermarkets, big box stores, and many pet stores. These foods are rife with chemical preservatives and animal by-products. Supply your dog with natural, holistic and/or organic fare found in natural foods stores and specialty pet shops. You may even consider creating your own organic, home-cooked meals for your dog or feeding him a diet based on raw meat.

    • 3

Give your dog natural herbs that support and strengthen the internal organs---liver, kidneys, lymphatic and immune systems---responsible for the removal of toxins. Oregon grape, burdock root, milk thistle, licorice and dandelion root herbs fortify the liver while cleansing the blood. Herbs such as cranberry, corn silk and marshmallow help clean the kidneys. Red clover supports the lymphatic system.

    • 4

Provide your dog with an immune support herb such as echinacea or garlic to strengthen the immune system's ability to fight against the health difficulties your dog is experiencing. Liquid zeolite, used for animals in the last 30 years, eliminates pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals and other chemical poisons quickly and safely, delivering a much-needed boost to your dog's immune system.

    • 5

Give your dog supplements containing "greens" like chlorophyll, kelp, spinach and spirulina. These elements supply nutrients such as amino acids, essential fatty acids and trace minerals often missing in commercial pet foods.

    • 6

Exercise your dog daily. The activity hastens the progression of waste through the digestive tract, improves blood circulation, ramps up the cardiovascular system and increases the movement of your dog's lymph fluid.

    • 7

Minimize your dog's exposure to exterior pollutants such household cleaners, secondhand cigarette smoke and lawn chemicals. Use natural products as much as possible, including flea control.
