Wrapping your dog's paw or leg after an injury is an easy procedure that you can do at home, as long as your dog's injury is minor (i.e., there is not too much bleeding or apparent pain). It is important that the leg is wrapped properly and is not causing the dog any discomfort but will still hold up throughout the dog's everyday activities.
Things You'll Need
- Ointment (if necessary)
- 1 roll gauze
- 1 gauze pad
- Self-adhesive bandage
- Adhesive tape
Instructions
Clean the foot gently with an antiseptic soap or a mixture of half hydrogen peroxide, half water.
Rinse the foot with warm clean water and pat it dry.
Apply a coat of antibiotic ointment, if necessary.
Place a gauze pad directly over the wound, and use adhesive tape to hold it.
Wrap a roll of gauze around the foot, starting at the bottom and ending above the ankle.
Wrap a self-adhesive bandage over the gauze to secure the dressing. Start at the bottom and work your way up, wrapping at least two layers around the entire dressing. Wrap it securely, but not so tight that the dog feels discomfort.
