Mange is a dermatological disturbance that is often found in dogs and caused by a member of the mite family. This parasite burrows into the dogs skin and causes a variety of skin problems, some of which can be visible signs early in the infection.
-
Hair Loss
-
Dogs with mange begin displaying small, red hairless areas around the ears and eyes and lose hair.
Irritation
-
The skin becomes severely irritated, forming pimples, thick skin and puss; this begins at the ear tips.
Scaling
-
The irritated skin often becomes crusty and scaly around the eyes, mouth and front legs.
Itching
-
The movement of the mites along with the irritated skin and infected sores lead to aggressive itching and scratching.
Dandruff
-
Some milder forms of mange may appear as a serious case of dandruff.
