How to Use Revolution to Treat Demodex Mange

Just a couple decades ago, if your dog had demodectic mange, you had few options for treatment aside from time-consuming, stressful chemical dips. Today there are many different alternatives for treatment and one of those is the topical flea and tick preventative Revolution, made by Pfizer. The active medication in Revolution is called Selamectin. A derivative of Ivermectin, the medication controls fleas, ticks, heartworms, ear mites and the mites that cause sarcoptic mange. While Pfizer doesn't make claims that Revolution is effective for demodectic mange, some veterinarians are prescribing it for this purpose and seeing success in managing these mites.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the tube of Revolution upright in your hand.

    • 2

Press the cap of the medication down until you hear a click.

    • 3

Remove the cap and look to ensure the tube was opened when the cap punctured the seal applicator.

    • 4

Part your dog's hair at the base of the pet's neck and place the tube on the skin.

    • 5

Squeeze the contents of the tube into your dog's skin until the tube is empty.

    • 6

Repeat this process again in two weeks, and again two weeks later, for a total of three applications over a six-week period.

    • 7

Ask with your veterinarian whether additional applications are necessary to kill all of the mites causing your dog's illness. It may take several applications to completely bring the mite population under control.
