Potatoes & Yeast Infections in Dogs

Yeasts live in the mucous membranes of living things, including dogs. These single cell organisms lead the way for bacteria, viruses and other invaders to enter into the dog's body and cause infection.

  1. Yeast Infection

    • Yeast infection in dogs usually occurs around the ears and on the skin. The infection is caused by Malasezzia pachydermatis, an organism.

    Prevention and Solution

    • One way to prevent or cure a yeast infection naturally is to put your dog on a raw meat and bone diet. Include supplements in the diet to boost the dog's immune system.

    Potatos

    • If you are unwilling to put your dog on an all-raw diet, consider using some grains, but not corn, which is starchy. Avoid potato-based food. Potatoes contain starch and can add yeast to the infection.

    Potato-Free Dog Food

    • Potato-free dog foods contain dried raw meats. These types of dog food are effective for giving your dog real nutrients as opposed to synthetic.

    Warning

    • If you are concerned or need more information about what to or not to feed a dog with a yeast infection, speak with your local vet.
