The homeopathic remedy, Rescue Remedy, is available for both humans and pets. Although it is a Bach flower remedy and homeopathic in nature, it should still be treated as a medicine. As such, its ingredients can have an adverse effect, especially if given in larger than recommended doses. As with all homeopathic remedies, it may work for one animal (or person) but not for another.

Rescue Remedy

If your animal is prone to gastrointestinal, respiratory or hepatic problems, be warned that some of the ingredients in Rescue Remedy could exacerbate any of these conditions. Even if your pet is in good health, only use rescue remedy at prescribed dosages. As a general rule, when first using any homeopathic remedy, begin with the lowest recommended dosage and, if necessary, slowly increase to higher doses. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Remember that homeopathic remedies and Bach flower remedies are highly individualized, and the ingredients of Rescue Remedy, while they are the most commonly used remedies, may not be the right remedies for your pet. It is also important to remember that it may interact with any other medication your pet is taking. As such, discuss the use of Rescue Remedy with your pet's veterinarian.
Rescue Remedy contains five Bach flower essences. It is a mix of rock rose, impatiens, clematis, star of Bethlehem and cherry plum. The rock rose essence combats terror and panic while impatiens soothes your pet's irritation and impatience. Clematis remedies inattentiveness, and the star of Bethlehem essence is to treat symptoms of shock. Cherry plum aids your pet by calming irrational thoughts. Rescue Remedy for pets is in a nonalcohol base. You simply add a few drops into your pet's water bowl, allowing the water to dilute the mixture.
Rescue Remedy Uses
-
Like people, pets get anxious too. Perhaps your cat or dog acts particularly nervous when going to see the veterinarian or when traveling. The makers of Rescue Remedy for pets recommend their product to help calm animals disturbed by loud noises, such as those caused by thunderstorms. The remedy is designed to calm animals who bark or hiss too frequently and too easily. The remedy can be used on animals suffering from separation anxiety or from the stress of moving into new surroundings. Animals that overly groom or lick themselves may benefit from the calming effects of Rescue Remedy. And, they recommend it for helping animals cope after trauma.
Additional Bach Flower Essences
-
There are 38 different Bach flower essences, each used to treat different psychological issues. Aspen, for instance, is used to treat animals who exhibit signs of unaccountable fears, while beech treats animals that are intolerant of other animals, people or even situations. Animals who are obsessively clean may benefit from crab apple essence. A despondent animal may benefit from gentian. Holly may help pets who growl, snap or hiss out of jealousy, such as when a new baby or pet comes into the home. Mimulus may be given to shy and timid animals who suffer from general fears.
So if Rescue Remedy does not work for your pet, there may be other Bach remedies that would.
