Honey is a great healing product for people and animals. Most people don̵7;t know it, but it kills many antibiotic-resistant organisms and helps flesh wounds heal much faster than normal antibiotics would. Whether it is used on a burn, a scrape or a large cut, honey prevents infections by killing most of the bacteria and keeping the skin resilient and soft.
Things You'll Need
- Soapy water
- Electric hair clipper or animal trimmer
- Honey
- Gauze
- Medical tape
- Medihoney pads (optional)
- Hydrogen Peroxide (optional)
Instructions
Clean the area around your pet̵7;s wound as well as you can, without causing harm to your pet. Warm, soapy water will work fine for this. The purpose of this is to disinfect the surrounding area, so try not to get soap directly inside the wound.
Shave the area around the wound, taking extra care as you get closer to it. Ensure there isn̵7;t any loose hair inside the wound. Hydrogen peroxide may now be used (optional). Pour it directly on the wound and surrounding area to ensure all the bacteria on the wound̵7;s surface is dead.
Apply honey to a piece of gauze (or use Medihoney pads), ensuring the gauze completely covers the wound with at least half an inch extra on each side. The more honey you use, the better. Use medical tape to hold the gauze in place. Change the gauze every 8 hours or so, and inspect the wound and surrounding area to make sure it isn̵7;t becoming infected.
