How to Treat a Rash on a Dog

Dogs get rashes for a variety of reasons including allergies, infections, parasites and even reactions to medications. Rashes are uncomfortable and sometimes painful for dogs. Without immediate treatment, a rash can spread and increase in size within 24 hours. The key to successful elimination of a rash on a dog is to treat both the cause and the symptoms of the rash. With veterinary treatment and home care, your dog can be healthy and more comfortable in no time.

Things You'll Need

  • Cloth
  • Warm water
  • Antiseptic cleaner
  • Electric shaver (optional)
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Gauze
  • Water soluble adhesive gel

Instructions

    • 1

Consult a veterinarian to determine the cause of your dog's rash and follow the prescribed treatment for the cause of the rash.

    • 2

Clean the affected area using a cloth moistened with warm water and antiseptic cleaner. If hair needs to be removed, do so carefully using an electric shaver. Then clean the area with the moistened cloth.

    • 3

Apply aloe vera gel directly to the cleaned skin to treat irritation of the skin.

    • 4

Cover the treated rash with gauze. Use a water soluble adhesive gel to adhere the gauze to the dog's skin. To remove the bandage later simply moisten the gauze.
