Feldene is a prescription medication used to treat bladder tumors found in dogs. Despite its effectiveness, Feldene poses a risk for side effects in your pet.
-
Types of Side Effects
-
Side effects of Feldene include depression, loss of appetite, vomiting and constipation.
Features: Ulcerations
-
Because Feldene is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication it poses a risk for gastrointestinal ulcers in dogs. If your dog passes dark stools, notify your veterinarian as this is an indication of a bleeding stomach or intestinal ulcer.
Drug Interactions
-
It is important not to combine other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications with Feldene as this increases your pet's risk for ulcers. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for dogs include EtoGesic, Deramaxx and Metacam. Corticosteroids like prednisone also increase the chance for ulceration.
Risks
-
Some dogs develop life-threatening allergic reactions to Feldene. There is also a risk for kidney or liver damage or failure related to use of Feldene.
Considerations
-
If your dog has a history of heart failure, stomach inflammation or bleeding or kidney or liver disease, your veterinarian may not prescribe Feldene for bladder tumor treatment due to its side effects.
