Though bulldogs are not listed as predisposed to seizures according to Pethealth101.com, there are potential causes. They are a brachycephalic breed--meaning they have short, flat noses--which can create issues causing seizures.

What are Seizures?
-
According to Pethealth101.com, seizures are the result of abnormal brain activity. When there are no known causes and the seizures recur, this is known as epilepsy.
Types of Seizures
-
Gran Mal seizueres include convulsions; Petit Mal seizures do not. Gran Mal can also include drooling, urination and defecating. Petit Mal seizures can cause disorientation, drooling, barking and other dissociative behaviors such as tail chasing.
Brachycephalic-specific Causes
-
Brachycephalic breeds can develop respiratory issues that may result in seizures brought on by anoxia (lack of oxygen). Respiratory issues can make bulldogs heat-sensitive, resulting in heatstroke, another known cause for seizures.
Non-breed-specific Causes
-
Additional potential causes for seizures include rabies, liver failure, malnutrition and outdoor dangers such as eating toxic plants or materials. Altered levels of sodium and potassium levels in the blood from diarrhea and vomiting may also result in seizures.
Seizure Trauma
-
Dogs do not feel any pain when they are seizing, and dogs are not in danger of swallowing their tongue. If it lasts for a few minutes, the seizure can cause other physical trauma and constitute a medical emergency.
