Canine mange is caused by mites that burrow in and out of a dog's skin. The mites' activity can cause redness, hair loss and itchiness. If left untreated, a dog will continue to bite and lick at its skin, and the mange will eventually turn into skin disease. A dip bath is a great choice for treating canine mange.
Things You'll Need
- Goggles
- Rubber gloves
- Liquid dip for dogs
- Water
- Mild soap
Instructions
Wash the dog with mild soap and water to clean its skin before the dipping. Choose a soap that is safe for dogs and contains few or no harsh chemicals.
Towel-dry the dog completely after washing it.
Put on rubber gloves and goggles to prevent the dip from touching your eyes or skin.
Mix one bottle of dip solution with two gallons of water. Make sure the dip solution you buy contains amitraz, which is the medicine that best treats mites.
Cover the dog completely with the water and dip solution, avoiding the dog's eyes and mouth.
Allow the dog to air-dry. Do not towel-dry the dog.
Repeat the dipping process 14 days later, then apply a third treatment after 14 more days.
