Zeniquin Side Effects

Zeniquin, also known as marbofloxacin, is an antibiotic for a variety of bacterial infections in dogs. It is most often used to treat urinary-tract infections, but can be used for skin infections as well.

  1. Benefits

    • When used to treat UTIs, Zeniquin is only required once a day. There are four different strengths, allowing your veterinarian to prescribe the right dose for your dog's body weight.

    Mild Side Effects

    • Some side effects your pet may experience are loss of appetite, vomiting and decreased activity.

    Major Side Effects

    • Let your veterinary know if your dog experiences more severe side effects, such as increased thirst, shaking or tremors, and ataxia.

    Cautions

    • Zeniquin should not be prescribed to puppies because it may lead to bone and cartilage defects. Depending on the size of your dog, it should not be taken until your pet is 12 to 18 months old.

    Warnings

    • As with any medication, Zeniquin may not be right for your pet. Contact your veterinarian if symptoms experienced by your dog worsen or become bothersome. This medicine is only approved by federal law to be used by order of a licensed veterinarian. If your dog has kidney problems, it should not take this medication because of an increased risk of renal failure.
