How to Give a Puppy a Flea Bath

Fleas can be more than just an irritant to your puppy. They can be carriers of disease, parasites and can even drain your puppy of blood, leaving them anemic and lethargic. Giving a puppy a flea bath is a great way to give your puppy some immediate relief from itching, and kill the fleas at the same time.

Things You'll Need

  • Medicated flea shampoo for puppies
  • Old Towel
  • Flea comb

Instructions

    • 1

Either in the bathtub, or sink large enough, place your puppy in and soak thoroughly. It is important to get your puppy wet enough to create lather with the shampoo.

    • 2

Lather your puppy with shampoo. Keep the towel nearby in case some shampoo gets in the face of the puppy. Make sure to pay extra attention to belly and legs. Don't forget the ears and tail!

    • 3

Rinse puppy thoroughly. Flea medicated shampoo should be completely rinsed out. You will see the dead fleas being rinsed out if the shampoo has done its job.

    • 4

Dry puppy with an old towel. Be sure to place towel in plastic bag and seal it until it can be soaked and washed in hot water to kill any fleas, or flea eggs.

    • 5

Comb puppy with a flea comb. This helps get any flea "escapees". Keep a cup of bleach nearby to drop the fleas in. Giving your puppy a flea bath and ridding him of fleas is sure to make his much more comfortable!
