The Cough
-
A hacking cough in dogs is the most common symptom of kennel cough. It may be "productive," that is, it makes the dog gag or spit up foamy mucus, or dry, which doesn't produce anything. Severe coughing may make the dog vomit.
Other Signs
-
Besides having a cough, the dog may have a runny nose but other than that seem perfectly normal.
If your dog begins to seem lethargic or loses its appetite, the ailment may be getting worse. Visit the vet as soon as possible before pneumonia develops.
Resolution
-
Like a human cold, a mild case of kennel cough can clear up on its own within a week or so.
