Boxer Skin Disorders

Like any breed, boxers have their share of health problems, including skin disorders.

  1. Cutaneous Asthenia

    • Cutaneous asthenia is a condition in which the skin is extremely stretchy and prone to tearing, cuts and abrasions.

    Dermoid Cyst

    • In this condition, cysts develop usually along the back, but can be found in other areas such as the nose, tail or tongue. They are lesions and can occur singularly or many at one time. They are generally removed in surgery.

    Histiocytoma

    • Histiocytoma is characterized by nonpainful, benign tumors generally appearing on the head and neck. They appear rapidly and do not respond to chemotherapy; while mild cases may be treated effectively with drugs, the condition is usually fatal.

    Mastocytoma

    • Mastocytoma consists of dense tumors that may appear on any body surface, including inner organs, but most commonly on the back of the upper thigh. Surgical removal of the tumor and surrounding area is the standard treatment.

    Fibrosarcoma

    • Another cancerous disease, fibrosarcoma, occurs most commonly on the trunk and legs, although it can occur on any body surface, including the mouth. Surgery is the optimal treatment, although recurrence is likely within one year.
