If your dog has a problem with diarrhea you may have been asked by your veterinarian to feed him a bland diet that includes chicken and rice. The important element of this diet is the removal of grease and fat, and the inclusion of fiber and protein. Fiber should be added to help bind your dog's intestines so add it sparingly to the below recipe by adding a teaspoon of a commercially prepared fiber product such as Metamucil or Benfiber.
Things You'll Need
- boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- brown rice
- water
- 2 saucepans
Instructions
Place boneless, skinless chicken breasts in saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring chicken to a gentle boil. Boil, without a lid, for 45 minutes or more.
Prepare brown rice according to instructions on the packet. The ratio of chicken to rice should be 2 to 1; therefore, if you have approx. 2 cups of boiled chicken, aim to yield 1 cup of brown rice.
Drain the chicken, rinsing the meat with water so as to remove all of the fat and grease. Allow the chicken to cool and shred with a fork. Mix together the chicken and rice. Serve warm or at room temperature; chicken and rice will keep for 3-5 days in the fridge or longer in the freezer.
