Homeopathic Treatment of Canine Seborrhea Dermatitis

Canine seborrhea dermatitis affects the quality of a dog's coat and the condition of his skin. With this condition, a dog may develop dry, scaly, flaky, itchy skin, skin sores from scratching and a greasy, odorous coat. The symptoms are caused by acceleration in the flaking off of dead skin cells, which can be a result of hypothyroidism, nutritional deficiencies, parasites or allergies. Some homeopathic treatments can be used to treat canine seborrhea dermatitis.

  1. Arsenicum Album

    • In Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats, authors Richard H. Pitcairn, D.V.M., and Susan Hubble assert that Arsenicum album is a common homeopathic treatment for skin irritation in dogs. Arsenicum album 6x, a low-potency homeopathic remedy, is suggested for the treatment of a poor coat as well as dry, flaky skin. The treatment is to be given to your dog for a period of three days at a dosage of two pellets every four hours three times daily. You should not give your dog food for 10 minutes before or after giving him this homeopathic remedy. After the three days of dosing, you cease giving the dog the treatment for three days and return to dosing for another three days. You should give your dog Arsenicum album 6x for a total of 15 times in a 30-day period to alleviate canine seborrhea dermatitis.

    Graphites

    • Graphites is a homeopathic treatment recommended for healing skin irritations in dogs. This remedy helps to reduce skin inflammation, to diminish the odorous condition associated with canine seborrhea dermatitis and to eliminate waxy-looking wounds that discharge fluids. You can give your dog Graphites 6c, a low-potency homeopathic treatment, once every other day for a period of 10 days. Do not give the dog food five minutes before or after a dosage is given.

    Sulphur

    • Sulphur is a homeopathic remedy used to treat dry, flaky skin and irritated skin conditions in dogs. Sulphur 6c, a low-potency homeopathic treatment, can be offered to dogs to diminish licking, chewing and scratching, and to help heal red skin lesions and skin irritation. It is also an excellent defense against flea infestation. This treatment is good for treating hair loss in dogs, too. You should have your dog fast for one day per week by providing the dog with only water and broth. Sulphur 6c should be offered to your dog every other day for a period of 10 days. Do not offer your dog any food five minutes before or after this homeopathic treatment.

    Thuja Occidentalis

    • Thuja occidentalis is used to help improve the condition of your dog's coat. This treatment is an ideal method to try if and when other homeopathic options fail. Thuja occidentalis 30, a medium-potency homeopathic remedy, can be offered to your dog as a crushed powder. Take three pellets and crush them; place the resulting powder on your dog's tongue. This dosage is to be given only one time. Wait 30 days before repeating the dosage, if necessary. Food should not be offered to your dog for an hour before or after this homeopathic treatment.
